Cristina Reis – Conference Interpreter Connecting Worlds

Cristina Reis - Conference Interpreters

From a king and a Nobel Prize winner to human rights activists, Cristina’s job has taken her everywhere.

“Once, I was suddenly called out of the booth and taken to a room full of people. Before I knew it, I was sitting between a king and a Nobel Prize winner, interpreting their private conversation. I only found out who they were when I was already seated next to them.”

Moments like these are unforgettable. But for Cristina, who has been a conference interpreter for over 30 years, the assignments that left the deepest impression weren’t always the most glamorous.

“I once interpreted at a conference with sex workers who were fighting for their human rights. Some of their stories were heartrending.

It reminded me that interpreting isn’t just about language — it’s about giving people a voice.

Whether in royal rooms or grassroots gatherings, interpreters connect people who would otherwise never understand each other.
